Gold and silver awards for operators of Bombardier jet and turboprop fleets
Two airlines with extensive fleets of Bombardier CRJ regional jets and Q Series turboprops were recently named airlines of the year by a respected industry association.
Air Nostrum of Spain won the coveted Gold Award for the fourth time, while Tyrolean Airways of Austria took the Silver Award, at the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) 2007 General Assembly in Athens, Greece on October 19.
"Air Nostrum strives for excellence in its operational performance and passenger service through various measures, and is demonstrating true leadership for the advancement of the industry as a whole," said a panel of judges that included past airline CEOs and independent aviation journalists from throughout Europe.
They also cited Air Nostrum's innovative financing arrangement that enabled it to add 10 CRJ900 regional jets to its fleet within a seven-month period, and Air Nostrum's satellite navigation trials.
Air Nostrum operates 63 Bombardier aircraft, 17 Q300 turboprops, and 35 CRJ200 and 11 CRJ900 regional jets.
Tyrolean Airways, which operates as Austrian arrows, was commended by the judges for its innovative technical and operational achievements, as well as for the achievement of a scope clause arrangement with Austrian Airlines allowing Tyrolean to operate all aircraft up to 110 seats.
Tyrolean has 35 Bombardier aircraft, including 12 Q300 and 10 Q400 turboprops, and 13 CRJ200 jetliners.
