Delta Air Lines has placed a firm order for 30 CRJ900 regional jets and taken options on 30 additional CRJ900 aircraft. Contract value of the 30 firm ordered aircraft is approximately $1.1 billion US and could rise to $2.3 billion if all options are exercised.
Bombardier Regional Aircraft showcased two of its popular regional jet and turboprop aircraft at the 2007 Paris Air Show.
The first of the recently-introduced next generation regional jets, a CRJ900 NextGen in the colours of Northwest Airlines, shared the static display with the milestone 800th Dash 8/Q Series turboprop to be delivered, a Q400 in Luxair livery.
"Both aircraft drew a considerable amount of attention from airline representatives and other industry observers," said Trung Ngo, Vice-president, Marketing and Communications at Bombardier Regional Aircraft. "The aircraft represent the best-selling regional jet and regional turboprop programs in history and their popularity continues to rise in the face of high fuel costs and growing environmental concerns.
"The CRJ family has a distinct operating cost advantage over its competition and no other regional aircraft can challenge the low operating costs of the Q400," said Mr. Ngo. "And noise and emissions from both families are well below present and foreseen international requirements."
To highlight the latter, Bombardier hosted a media briefing during which Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer at U.K. airline Flybe outlined the airline's new "eco-labeling" program for its aircraft, including the Q400. (Flybe has placed firm orders for 60 Q400s aircraft and, by 2009, will be the world fleet leader for the type.) The program informs passengers about the amount of fuel to be burned on their flight and the amount of noise and emissions to be produced.
The aim, said Mr. Rutter, is to ensure that Flybe is at the forefront of efforts by airlines to reduce the environmental impact of air travel and promote sustainable growth in the airline industry.
Bombardier Regional Aircraft also held ceremonial contract signings to mark recent CRJ900 orders from Libyan Airlines of Libya and Sevenair of Tunisia. Libyan Airlines has ordered three CRJ900 regional jets and holds options on two, while Sevenair ordered one CRJ900.
