| 250th CRJ700 goes to SkyWest |
March 2006 |
The Bombardier CRJ700 program reached a major milestone on March 14, 2006 when SkyWest, Inc. of St. George, Utah took delivery of the 250th CRJ700 to roll from the assembly line at Bombardier's Mirabel, Québec facility. SkyWest Airlines will operate the 70-seat aircraft on behalf of Delta Connection.
"The delivery of this 250th CRJ700 today continues to be a strong endorsement of the high regard the aircraft is held by its operators," said Steven A. Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Regional Aircraft at the delivery celebration. "More than 50 per cent of CRJ700 operators have re-ordered the aircraft and SkyWest has re-ordered it twice."
The handover of the aircraft was witnessed by executives from SkyWest, Inc. and Bombardier, media, and several hundred Bombardier Aerospace Employees. Shawn Anderson, President, Delta Connection, paid special tribute to the employees, thanking them for their fine workmanship.
Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Atkin, who helped establish SkyWest in 1972.
Mr. Ridolfi quoted Jerry Atkin, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SkyWest, Inc. as saying that SkyWest has benefited from hard working people who go way beyond expectations. Good people and the right numbers . . . are the factors that make any company successful.
"The people of Bombardier provided SkyWest with one of the greatest technology breakthroughs in airline history, the Bombardier CRJ," added Mr. Ridolfi. "The people of SkyWest, in turn, saw the potential in the airplane. And by maximizing that potential through their partnership with carriers such as Delta did much to establish the regional jet concept."
And SkyWest has indeed capitalized on Bombardier's CRJ. SkyWest Airlines and SkyWest Inc.'s Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) operate a fleet of 311 CRJs, comprised of 229 CRJ200 and 82 CRJ700 aircraft. That makes the SkyWest family the largest operator of CRJ aircraft in the world.
With better performance, best-in-class fuel efficiency and lower operating and maintenance costs, the CRJ delivers the "right numbers" to all of its operators.
