US Airways Express takes the first of 60 CRJ200s |
October 2003 |
The regional jet and regional airline revolutions continued on October 28, 2003 when US Airways took delivery of the first of 60 CRJ200 aircraft destined for its US Airways Express carrier PSA Airlines, Inc. of Dayton, Ohio.
The 50-seat CRJ200 will begin PSA's transition to an all-regional jet airline when it launches regional jet service between Dayton and Washington, New York, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in December, 2003, replacing 32-seat Dornier turboprops. Delivery of the 60 aircraft to PSA will double the size of the carrier's fleet and triple its passenger capacity.
US Airways holds options on an additional 190 Bombardier Aerospace aircraft, which could include a mix of Bombardier CRJ200 and CRJ700 Series aircraft.
Said Bruce Ashby, President of US Airways Express, "This truly is an historic milestone for US Airways as we take delivery of PSA's first regional jet, implementing another key element of the company's restructuring plan. The CRJ200 is an outstanding airplane with a proven and successful track record in RJ operations within North America and in markets all over the world."
Steven A. Ridolfi, President of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft, said, "Larger airlines are continuing to turn to their regional partners for profitable service in many markets, thus continuing the regional airline revolution that began little more than a decade ago with the pioneering Bombardier CRJ. Now, US Airways will realize the benefits of high performance, low operating costs and the family commonality advantages of the Bombardier CRJ."
