| Malev Builds New Regional Service in Europe |
September 11, 2002 |
On September 11th 2002 Malev Airlines took delivery of their first of four 50-seat CRJ200s on firm order. The new CRJ200 will be used in the new regional division, called Malev Express, which has been flying between Budapest and Prague since July 11th using an interim Bombardier CRJ100.
Malev will use the new CRJ200 to feed it's own Budapest hub as well as its KLM/Northwest code-sharing partners. They also plan to expand their network to include points in the Ukraine, Romania and the Balkans, as well as between Budapest and points in Western Europe. They will begin daily flights to Odessa, Venice and Bologna once the CRJ200 is placed in service.
József Váradi, the chief executive officer of Malev Hungarian Airlines said, "Our interim CRJ100 introduced our passengers to the regional jet environment and they are very happy with our new Malev Express CRJ service."
Malev also holds options on six additional CRJs that are convertible to the 70-seat Bombardier CRJ700, should the carrier decide to add capacity.
"We thank Malev Express for showcasing the CRJ in Central Europe," said John Giraudy, president of Bombardier Regional Aircraft. "That part of Europe is becoming an important market for modern regional aircraft."
