September 6, 2002 |
Widerøe 's Flyveselskap of Norway travelled once again to Canada-to take delivery of their newest 72-seat turboprop on September 6, 2002. Accepting the Q400 on behalf of Widerøe was Bodil Aalde, vice-president, sales and marketing.
Widerøe is the longest-standing airline customer for Bombardier/de Havilland aircraft and the relationship between the two companies is justifiably celebrated. In recognition of this relationship, Widerøe sent a host of executives, journalists and guests to accompany their 2nd Q400 on the delivery flight home. Some of the dignitaries included Eivind Hoff, the Norwegian Consul General to Canada, and Sissel Stenberg the mayor of Stavanger…who unveiled a special crest next to the passenger door to applause and toasts all around.
John Giraudy, President, Bombardier Aerospace Regional Aircraft expressed gratitude for the confidence that Widerøe continues to show in Bombardier products. Indeed, Widerøe operates an all-Bombardier fleet of Dash 8 and Q Series aircraft, a strong testament to any manufacturer. Widerøe has another Q400 on firm order and holds options for an additional five.
The two companies began their relationship in 1953 with Widerøe's first DHC-3 Otter to service northern Norway. Since then, the relationship has grown and endured. Today, Widerøe's fleet consists of seventeen 37-seat Dash 8-100s, nine 50-seat Dash8-300/Q300 and three 72-seat Q400 aircraft.
We look forward to creating more history with Widerøe and, as always, are proud to be part of their success. 'Cheers', or as the Norwegians say "Skål".
