North Africa is the newest exciting locale for the rugged and dependable Dash 8. From the deserts of southern Egypt to the humid Mediterranean, the Q300 will soon be proving itself in the land of the Sphinx. Egypt's Petroleum Air Services (PAS) received the second of two 50-seat Bombardier turboprops in a small ceremony held in Cairo on Wednesday. The aircraft will be used to support Egypt's petroleum and tourism sectors, and adds to their existing fleet of five 50-seat de Havilland Dash 7 turboprops and 23 Bell Helicopters. Currently, PAS flies from Cairo International Airport to 11 sites within a 700 km (380 nm) radius on behalf of 12 Egyptian and multinational companies. It also operates charter flights within Egypt and to surrounding countries to support the country's tourism sector. The Dash 8/Q Series family of turboprops have gained a reputation for missionized work, as PAS is the sixth in a line of well-known petroleum companies (such as Saudi Aramco) to employ them in this capacity. Rugged dependability, passenger comfort (with a patented Noise and Vibration Suppression [NVS] system), and great operating economics are some of the reasons the Dash 8s do so well, especially for missionized applications. In a land of ancient secrets, the advantages of the Q Series Dash 8 are no mystery to operators. |
