London Calling October 11, 2001

Cool Britannia. New Britannia. Where better to showcase the world's most advanced airliner, other than at the London City Airport (LCY) on the River Thames in the reborn heart of London's "Docklands"?

Long famed for making aircraft comfortable in the world's most difficult climates, Bombardier (through antecedent de Havilland) has pulled off yet another triumph: access to one of the world's most performance-exclusive airports--thanks to newly-won JAA approval for the Q400 into LCY.

Few aircraft qualify for LCY's steep 5.5 degree approaches and none match the highly-advanced Q400 in either features or economics. The Q400 also easily meets existing standards for noise and exhaust emissions. By using the Q400, along with other members of the Q Series family already certified for LCY flighyts, airlines have "a great opportunity… to expand their business", said Steve Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Aerospace's Regional Aircraft division. Passenger traffic at LCY grew by an impressive 170% between 1995 and 2000*. Very cool numbers indeed.

Augsburg Airways (a Team Lufthansa member) will likely be the launch operator into LCY. Several others have expressed interest in taking advantage of this lucrative and select market, open to those who recognize opportunity calling. Ring-ring.
