The Q400 Soars to New Heights July 25, 2001

On August 27, Bombardier Q400 aircraft #4001 broke records with a test flight reaching 36,000 feet. Once again, the Q400 came through with shining colours.

The Q400 is type certified to operate at a maximum altitude of 25,000 feet, with a special option allowing flight up to 27,000 feet. Two years ago, the aircraft established a series of time to climb records up to 30,000 feet with a light operating weight.

According to Joel Paul, Manager, Engineering Flight Test, Toronto Flight Test Programs, this test showed the Q400 is ideally suited for higher altitude flight, including special missions.

"The Bombardier Q400 performs well at high altitude and flies at near jet speed, yet can cruise at very low airspeed as required. This makes it ideal for missionized use," said Paul. "Thanks to the work of many, this flight proves once again the outstanding potential of the Q400."
